Getting Personal about 2023

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

As the year comes to a close, it's a good time to take a step back and reflect on what we've accomplished and what we want to work on in the future. A personal year-end review is a great way to do this, and it can help us set goals and intentions for the coming year.

One way to start a personal year-end review is to make a list of your "Wins." These are the major events and accomplishments of the past year. This can include things like completing a big project at work, moving to a new home, or taking a trip you've always wanted to go on. It's important to celebrate these achievements and take time to appreciate the hard work that went into them.

Next, it can be helpful to think about your "Learning Opportunities." These include what didn't go as planned or what challenges you faced this year. This can include things like not getting that promotion you were hoping for, or experiencing a difficult personal situation. While it's natural to feel disappointed about these things, it's important to try to see them as opportunities for growth. What can you learn from these experiences, and how can you use that knowledge to set yourself up for success in the future?

Once you've identified your achievements and challenges, it's time to set some goals for the coming year. These goals can be big or small, and they can be related to your personal or professional life. But let me offer a slightly different strategy for success. Determine what habits you need to implement that will lead to success. For example, instead of "lose 15 pounds," consider I want to exercise 30 minutes three times a week." You also need a consistent rhythm of evaluation. A weekly or bi-weekly "Check-in" to measure progress and determine any next steps to success.

A personal "year in review" is a great way to take stock of the past year and set yourself up for success in the future. By reflecting on your achievements and challenges, getting clear on action items, and consistently taking those actions to support those goals, you can create a roadmap for a fulfilling and meaningful year ahead.
